ESADE Business School is a college and graduate school located in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. It is part of ESADE (Catalan: Escola Superior d'Administració i Direcció d'Empreses, Spanish: Escuela Superior de Administración y Dirección de Empresas) and associated with Ramon Llull University. Besides the Barcelona campus, the school has centers in Madrid and Buenos Aires. ESADE follows an applied teaching methodology, which is based on the development of professional and management skills.

ESADE Business School is one of the best business schools in the world, according to numerous rankings. In 2006 and 2007 ESADE was listed as the world’s best business school by The Wall Street Journal. In December 2013, The Financial Times (FT) ranking of the Best European Business Schools ranks the School 3rd of 80 selected Top Business Schools. On top of that ESADE Business School is ranked 13th worldwide in the eduniversal ranking. As one of 57 business schools worldwide ESADE has been awarded the Triple accreditation by EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA.

ESADE has collaboration agreements with over 100 universities worldwide, among them Boston College, the Wharton School, Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, Indian School of Business, UC Berkeley, Emory University, Queen's University, Georgetown University and Northwestern Kellogg. The school has also formed a strategic alliance with the Ramon Llull University in its undergraduate programmes in Law and Business.




Overview

History

The ESADE project was conceived in the spring of 1954 by a group of Spanish professionals and entrepreneurs who later founded the university. The school signed an agreement with the Jesuits (Societas Iesu) in October 1958 and started offering its first academic programs in a small building in the district of Sant Gervasi, Barcelona.

In 1958, ESADE was ultimately founded. Two years later, in 1960, executive education programmes were introduced. In 1964 the college's MBA programme was established. A year later, in 1965, ESADE's Barcelona campus (Av. Pedralbes) opened (Building I). In 2001, the school inaugurated its campus in Madrid (Chamartín), and two years later its campus in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Both are primarily used for Executive Education. In 2009 ESADE opened a new campus in Sant Cugat (Barcelona) as well as ESADE Creapolis, a technology park based on open innovation and situated on the new Sant Cugat campus.

Rankings

The Wall Street Journal listed ESADE Business School as the world’s best business school in 2006 and 2007. The school has been ranked 3rd out of 80 selected Top Business Schools in the Financial Times (FT) ranking of the Best European Business Schools 2013. ESADE Business School is ranked 13th world-wide in the eduniversal ranking.

MSc Programmes in Management

The Master in International Management (MSc) has been ranked 6th worldwide by the Financial Times in 2014. The Financial Times ranked the Master in Finance (MSc) 2nd in the world in 2015.

Full-Time MBA

The ESADE MBA has been ranked 17th worldwide by the magazine The Economist in 2011 and 19th worldwide by the Financial Times in 2015. The magazine Business Week currently ranks the ESADE MBA 4th among all non-U.S. MBA programmes. The Aspen Institute, which ranks institutions on how well schools incorporate issues concerning social and environmental stewardship into the curriculum, ranked ESADE 12th in the world in 2011.

Executive Education

The Financial Times ranks ESADE's Customized Executive Education Programmes 4th in the world in 2013. The FT lists ESADE's Open Executive Education 9th worldwide in 2013. ESADE's Executive MBA (EMBA) program has been ranked 15th in the world by the FT in 2013.

ESADE also offers an International Executive Master in Marketing & Sales (emms) in partnership with SDA Bocconi School of Management, Milan (Italy).

BBA

ESADE has been recognised by the newspaper El Mundo as the best private business school in Spain for its Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) programme.

Programmes

ESADE Business School offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degrees, as well as a doctoral program.

MSc Programmes in Management

Four MSc Programmes in Management are offered: the Master in International Management, the Master in Finance, the Master in Marketing Management, and the Master in Innovation and Entrepreneurship. All 4 programmes last 1 year and share a similar structure: Term 1 covers specific core courses in each of the programmes. The first term is followed by a study tour whose destination/topic can be chosen by each student, and skill seminars of choice. Term 2 features further core courses which deepen and/or extend the courses of the first term, and Term 3 allows students to choose from a wide range of electives. In Term 4 (summer/early spring) participants can either write a master thesis, conduct an in-company project, or create a business plan. All 4 MSc Programmes may be combined with the CEMS program which would extend the Masters' length beyond 1 year.

The 4 MSc classes contain 95% international students who represent 42 different nations. Most courses are based on a team format which enables students to gain extensive experience in cross-cultural teamwork during their studies.

Full-Time MBA

The ESADE Business School offers an accelerated, customizable full-time MBA programme. Students can choose among a 12, 15 and 18-month track. The 12-month program is completed with classes from September to September, while the 15- and 18-month programs allow for either summer internships, exchanges with other MBA programmes worldwide, or both. In the first eight months the accepted students (159 in 2012) are divided into three sections, with whom they complete a significant portion of their studies in a team format. In the remaining terms, classes are completed on an elective basis.

The student body is highly international, with 95% international students who represent 48 nationalities. The Full-Time MBA features a strong focus on student clubs, organized and managed by the MBA Student Association (MBASA). Popular student clubs include Consulting, Media, Finance, Innovation & Design, Marketing and Clean Technology, and provide frequent guest speakers, competitions, case study sessions, dinners, visits to other schools and company visits across Europe.

Executive Education

ESADE Business School offers a range of programmes aimed at executives and experienced professionals. These programs include Executive MBAs, Executive Master Programmes, Open Programmes, and Custom Programmes. The Global Executive MBA (GEMBA) is taught in cooperation with the McDonough School of Business and the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington D.C.. The course follows a modular structure, with modules taught in the United States, Spain, Brazil, Argentina, India, and Russia.

ESADE also offers an International Executive Master in Marketing & Sales (emms) in partnership with SDA Bocconi School of Management, Milan (Italy).

PhD in Management Sciences

The ESADE Business School offers a PhD programme that consists of two parts:

  • A Master in Research (MRes) (duration: 1 year)
  • A supervised research period (duration: 3 â€" 4 years)



ESADE Alumni

ESADE's counts more than 48,000 alumni of 105 different nationalities. They live in 115 different countries, with many of them holding posts of responsibility in an array of companies and organizations. The objectives of ESADE's official alumni association include contributing to the improvement of alumni professional skills, favouring social relationships and cooperation among members, and orienting members' career development. The ESADE alumni association is self-governing, with 33 international chapters and 20 functional/sector-specific clubs. Each of the chapters and the clubs is organized by a board of ESADE alumni in the respective country or sector.
