History

Portland State University has offered courses in business since its founding as a college in 1946. In the early years, all business classes were offered under the Social Science Division with Dr. George Hoffman as the department head. In 1961 all business courses were separated from the Social Science Department and placed in the newly created Division of Business Administration, headed by Dr. Donald E. Parker.

In 2009 the SBA began offering a joint MBA in Healthcare Management with Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) as a part-time degree program for mid-career professionals.
