Catholic High School Petaling Jaya (CHSPJ), more commonly known as SMJK Katholik, is a coeducational government school in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, recognised as a Cluster School of Excellence by the Malaysian Ministry of Education. Founded in 1956 by Rev. Bro. Philippe Wu of the Marist Brothers, it has over 3100 students. It has an area of 8.4 acres (34,000 m2) with six blocks of classrooms (Blocks A, B, C, D, E, F and G), three blocks of science laboratories, an air conditioned school hall, a sports complex, 2 canteens, squash courts, a library and a school field. CHS has 14 uniformed bodies, 36 societies, 5 sports houses and 14 sports and games clubs. The students of CHS are known as 'CHS-ians'. Due to having the status of a Chinese conforming school, students applying for CHS are required to have taken Chinese paper for UPSR. Mandarin Chinese paper is compulsory for all students and enrollment examinations such as PT3 and SPM.

Academics
CHS achieved a 100% passing rate for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia in the year 2011, with 5 12A students, 26 11A students, and 76 10A students in that particular year. Earlier in the year 2008, the school boasts 2 14A, 12 13A, 44 12A and 67 11A students in the SPM examinations. Khor Hui Yi was awarded Best Student for Selangor State in 2013 for achieving 10A+ in SPM. Mok Siao Chi was the best student of CHS, scoring 10A+ in the 2015 SPM exams. CHS emerged as the top school in PPD Petaling Utama in the 2016 SPM examination, with Iddhima Chong Hui Yi scoring 11A+ 1A and Eer Kai Jun scoring 10A+ and 1A being awarded top-scorers of Selangor.
The school achieved 100% passing rate for seven years consecutively since the year 2006 in the STPM exams.
CHS scored flying colours in the PMR examinations too, having 163 8A students in the year 2011, 122 8A students in 2012 and 156 8A students in the year 2013.
Sports
CHS has made appearances in the arena of ultimate frisbee. In 2006, CHS competed in the UM Open, sending three teams (one Open, one Men's Novice, one Women's Novice). In 2007, CHS sent a few representatives to join All Star at the Valley Ultimate's Hard-Core Ultimate Frisbee and also sent five teams to make a clean sweep at the Subang Jaya Community Youth Under-18 Ultimate Open. In 2008, CHS competed in competitions such as the UiTM Open, where the team received the title of Most Promising Team and Taylor's Ultimate Mini.
In the field of table tennis, student Lim Ann Er represented Malaysia and won Bronze medal in the 15th Southeast Asian Junior Table Tennis Championship held in Bangkok year 2009. In 2012, Foo Dunley won the Silver Medal for Men's Doubles in the 4th ASEAN School Games held in Surabaya, Indonesia while in 2013, Leong Chee Feng won the Gold Medal in the Men's Single category in the 19th SEA Junior Tournament held in Manila, Philippines. As of 2017, Malaysia has never won a gold medal in the Men's Single event ever since.
In the year 2006 for squash, Tan Yan Xin won back-to-back First Place finishes in the Women's Under-13 Category in Sheffield, United Kingdom, Australia Bi-Series in Sydney, Australia and MILO All Star International in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. She also won First Runner-up in the Scottish Junior Open in Edinburgh, Scotland. She also won Third Place for the women's single U-19 category in the Pioneer Cup held in Cologne, Germany.
In the 36th Southeast Asia Age Group Swimming Championship held in Jakabaring Aquatic Stadium in Palembang, Indonesia in the year 2012, Yap Siew Hui won the gold medal for the women's 50m butterfly event in swimming. She also won 6 gold medals in the 8th Singapore Island Country Club Swimming Championship, being triumphant in the 100 m Freestyle, 100 m Butterfly, 50 m Freestyle, 50 m Butterfly, 4 x 50 m Medley Relay and 4 x 50 m Free Relay. In the year 2013, she together with Yeap Zheng Yang won 3 gold medals and 1 silver medal in aquatic events during the 2013 Islamic Solidarity Games held in Palembang, Indonesia. Yap also won the Bronze Medal for Malaysia in the 4×100 m medley relay event at the 2013 Southeast Asian Games held in Naypyidaw, Myanmar.
In martial arts, Choo Tim Yung won three gold medals in the 2013 4th Singapore International Martial Art Tournament held in Yio Chu Kang Indoor Stadium, Singapore.
During the 2017 Southeast Asian Games, See Wan Ni and fellow compatriots clinched a gold medal for Malaysia in the women's 3000 m relay ice skating event.
For tennis, student Low Kar Win represented Malaysia and won gold in the ASEAN School Games.
The cheer leading team for Catholic High is Calyx. They won the Best Dressed award, Best Make Up award and also Second Runner Up for the CHEER 2009 national cheer leading championships. The team put in a brilliant performance to finish second in the All-Girls category in CHEER 2015.
Science and Mathematics
Foong Yake Ho and Liew Chien Hao represented Malaysia to compete in the 39th International Mathematical Olympiad in Taipei, Taiwan in the year 1998. In the same year, Foong won a bronze medal in the Asian-Pacific Mathematical Olympiad while Liew won a bronze medal in the Southeast Asia Mathematical Olympiad. In the following year, both Foong and Liew represented Malaysia in the 40th Mathematical Olympiad held in Bucharest, Romania. They won a consolation prize and bronze medal respectively in the Asia-Pacific Mathematical Olympiad held in 1999.
The 2nd Sunway University College Inter-School Math Quiz Challenge 2007 Finals held at Sunway University College was won by Form 5 CHS students Cheong Tee Jin, Bryan Chong Hau Foo, and Tan Jing Lynn. Cheong Tee Jin represented Malaysia in the International Math Olympiad in Slovenia in the year 2006.
Catholic High student Tham Ying Hong represented Malaysia and won the Silver Award in the 51st International Mathematic Olympiad organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the year 2010. In the year 2011, he won the Gold Medal in the Australian Mathematics Competition, Gold Medal in the 23rd Asia Pacific Mathematics Olympiad and Bronze Medal in the 52nd International Mathematical Olympiad in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Yeoh Chin Vern is the bronze medalist in the 2013 44th International Physics Olympiad held in Copenhagen, Denmark.
In Taylor's University Engineering Competition 2013 which requires participants to research and design a CO2 powered car, a team of five male students representing CHS won Best Poster Design Award.
Music and Dance
SMJK Katholik emerged champion in the 2005 National Level High School Brass Band Competition held in Penang. Education Ministry general Tan Sri Dato' Setia Haji Ambrin Bin Buang said SMJK Katholik had set a very high standard in brass performance for others to use as a benchmark. Their performance was indeed outstanding.
The school band won the Silver Award in the Singapore International Band Festival in 2010 organized by the Wind Bands Association of Singapore. From 29 November 2011 to 3 December 2011, the Catholic High School Band participated in the international 3rd Winter Band Festival 2011 at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort. 42 students participated in the event. With Eric Lee Yin Fah as conductor, the band is proud to have won a Gold Award. Besides that, the CHS Band is also the first Malaysian band to perform in the Art of Animation Studio, Disneyland, Hong Kong.
In the 6th World Choir Games held in Shaoxing, China from 22 to 27 July 2010, 29 student representatives from Catholic High won the Silver Diploma as a choir team representing Malaysia. CHS student Chong Jia Wen won 2 gold medals, namely for the Latin Pre Novice Cha Cha and Latin Pre Novice Jive events in the Johor Stars of Tomorrow International Ballroom Dancing Championships 2013.
In the national Malaysian Choral Eisteddfodd in the year 2017, the Catholic High School choir, known as The Melodious Singers, obtained the gold diploma certification, henceforth cementing their level of choral prestige in the national level.
Arts and Design
A team of three students from Catholic High took the champion title in the national Built Environment Explained Competition 2013 organized by Taylor's University, winning a total cash prize of RM 2800. The theme given on that year was Designing Better Classrooms.
Debate
CHS Chinese Debate team won the Championship in the National Secondary School Chinese Debate Competition in the years 1999, 2001, 2002 and 2003.
Chess
Yeoh Li Tian won the Malaysian Chess Championship in 2015 and 2016, and played in the Chess World Cup 2017 in Tbilisi, Georgia, being defeated by former world champion Viswanathan Anand in the first round.
Business
In the year 2016, one team from CHS was inaugurated as national champions in the FedEx-Amcham International Trade Challenge,
In the year 2017, two teams from Catholic High School emerged as one of nation's top 3 companies in the Taylor's University 1 Million Dreams Startup Challenge.

Sports Houses
Students are divided into five houses, each competing collectively to gain points in various events such as cross-country running, Sports Day and the extravagant Sports house Deco in which each house select a theme related to their colour and build a 3.5 m x 3.5 m x 9 m structure made out of recycled materials. At the end of the annual Sports Day, points are totaled up and the house with the highest points wins.

Prefect Bus Accident
On 24 March 2014, a bus carrying 34 students overturned near Kampung Nanding in Hulu Langat, killing one student, Chin Yeong Peng (aged 17) and injuring four. The students and a teacher were returning from Lembah Azwen Resort where they had attended a leadership camp.
